Zombie novels wanted

26 08 2008

Hey Luke! You’ve got a zombie novel that doesn’t suck.

You should check out http://jlassen.livejournal.com/597517.html

Somebody wants it!

(Anyone else who has so far been too embarrassed to admit that they have a zombie novel in their bottom drawer should have a look too.)

Graham.

Just because these guys are zombie-fixated, doesn’t mean that somebody, somewhere, doesn’t love your giant monster.

Saw the zombie novel possibility and talked to Marianne about it. I only sent the finished first draft to Hachette about a month ago, so I’m going to wait until October. If they get back to me with a negative (I hope not), then I’ll submit to Night Shade. I had a look at the Night Shade site – sounds like a great publishing house.

I heard from Bernadette recently and she’s hatched a cunning plan whereby she and Deonie won’t re-read our resubmissions but will each read the resubmissions from the authors they didn’t originally read. (So Deonie will read all the ones Bernadette read first time around and Bernadette will read the ones Deonie read.)

It seems like a reasonable thing to do – and could be great if we get the chance of a second professional reading. The downside is that Bernadette thinks it will take rather longer to give us a response doing it this way! (If ‘dog years’ are about 7:1 human years, ‘publisher years’ seem to be the opposite – about 1:7 writer years.)

By the way, the MS I sent to Bernadette in early June and which seemed to be irretrievably lost in the post, turned up on her desk a few days ago!!

I did a lot of conceptual art for a zombie film based on a RPG a few years back, where the director and I fleshed out the whole zombie biology and stuff… anyway had a great bunch of alternative ways of rewriting the zombie meme, which hopefully one day will see the light, but writing a full story within 2 months is just not going to happen (again).
