Get as far away from the screen as possible, mate! RUN!

Go do something mind-numbing and completely different, until your brain realises writing that chapter is preferable, and kick-starts the juices for you again )

Mid-chapter blues

Ugh.  Don’t you hate it when you start a chapter with every intention of finishing it, yet the more you write the further away the end gets?  I’m right in the middle of a Chinatown massage parlour, my hero’s kicked down the door and is about to get the evidence he needs against a cheating husband, and then NOTHING.  I lose the thread.  My whole fantasy world is gone in a puff of smoke.  One minute I’m in New York, the next I’m looking at a flickering cursor mocking me and reminding me how many words I have yet to write.  The chapter is yet to be finished and I begin to wonder how I can scale the blank, white slopes when I don’t have any skis.

Any tips?

Orbiteers, blast off!

Yes, it’s a bit corny, a bit b-grade for the first posting on the Orbiteers’ website, but what can I say?  I’m that sort of guy.

Anyway, welcome one and all to the www home of the Orbiteers, a group of speculative fiction writers drawn together for a manuscript development program by the Queensland Writer’s Centre and Orbit.  We’re going to use this site as a bit of a hub for ourselves and anyone else who’s into sci fi, fantasy or horror.  Once we’re up and running we’ll have blogs, links, extracts, reviews, all sorts of stuff to do with writing, the specualtive fiction genre and the novels we’re working on.  Something for everyone.

So, once more, welcome.  And Orbiteers, remember that this website’s like Fight Club.  You determine the level of your involvement.  (And the first rule is you do not talk about the Orbiteers…the second rule is you do not talk about the Orbiteers…)

Kidding.  Hope to see you here.
